FAQ

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Beatles to this website as well as Usenet newsgroups, message boards, and other sites.

Q: Does anyone have the entire Hey Jude CD since it is no longer in production? Why did they take it out of production? I have found tracks off the Hey Jude CD but not all of them.

A: The *album* titled Hey Jude (a.k.a The Beatles Again) was never officially issued on CD by Apple or Capitol, nor will it be as it is a US-only release. The CD releases were based off of the UK albums only. The songs from the Hey Jude album, including the song "Hey Jude", can be found on the CD titled Past Masters Vol. 2 (Capitol/Apple, 1988). If you saw the Hey Jude album on disc it was a 'pirated bootleg'.

Q: I have a copy of the Beatles first album, Introducing The Beatles. Can you tell me what this album is worth?

A: It's hard to say, because Introducing The Beatles is by far the most counterfeited album on the (black) market - in the *world*. You can learn more about it (including how to tell if yours is the real mccoy and what its worth if it is) at http://www.eskimo.com/~bpentium/beatles/intro/intro.html

Q: Can anyone provide more information about the World Wildlife Fund album The Beatles contributed "Across The Universe" to?

A: The album was titled No One's Gonna Change Our World and was released by Starline Records On December 12, 1969. The track listing is as follows:

Side A:

  1. Across the Universe - The Beatles
  2. What the World Needs Now is Love - Cilla Black
  3. Cuddy Old Koala - Rolf Harris
  4. Wings - The Hollies
  5. Ning Nang Nong/The Python - Spike Milligan

Side B:

  1. Marley Purt Drive - The Bee Gees
  2. I'm a Tiger - Lulu
  3. Bend It - Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich
  4. In the Country - Cliff Richard & The Shadows
  5. When I See an Elephant Fly - Bruce Forsyth
  6. Land of My Fathers - Harry Secombe

The back cover reads:

A personal message from H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh:
A meeting of the World Wildlife Fund was convened at Buckingham Palace on the 21st December, 1967. It was in the nature of a 'Talk In' with the view to stimulating new ideas. Among those present were several people form the entertainment world, on whose behalf Spike Milligan suggested making a long-playing record on which the Aritsts, Composers, Publishers, and Recording Companies would waive all fees. This record is the result of that idea. Royalties for its sale will go towards funds dealing with rare animals in danger of extinction. This in itself makes this a unique record. I can do no more than wish it great success.

Q: If the Capitol CD releases are supposed to reflect the UK album releases, why isn't Magical Mystery Tour released as a double EP?

A: A puzzling choice by Capitol, but the reason is reportedly because when the single LP was released in the UK (ten years after it was released in America), it was so well received that it became the "official" version.

Q: In regards to the Beatles' last live appereance on the Apple rooftop - what songs did they play? What was the date? Is it true that they got arrested? Did any songs from that performance end up on the Let It Be album?

A: The Beatles made their last-ever live appearence on January 30th, 1969, on the rooftop of the Apple offices on Saville Row in London with guest keyboardist Billy Preston, who had played on several other songs in a session just two days earlier. The police were called 42 minutes into the set, forcing an early ending to the show. Nobody was arrested, even though there may have been plans to keep playing until they were arrested and end the film that way. The set list was:

Of these performances, "One After 909", a Phil Spector remix of "Dig A Pony", the first version of "I've Got a Feeling", and the John Lennon monologue from the end of the show (added to the album version of "Get Back") were used on the Let It Be album.
